This post is full time and permanent, working 35 hours per week.

Your range of responsibilities and duties will be interesting and varied within the Life Science laboratories. These will include technical support for practical classes throughout the calendar year, undertaking demonstration / training of the safe and correct use of equipment and materials, supervision of junior staff, production and implementation of health and safety policies and procedures, general laboratory maintenance (e.g. glass washing, glass store maintenance, room booking / timetabling database maintenance, autoclave operation, waste management, procurement, equipment servicing and maintenance and more), we are particularly interested in people with experience and skills in the following areas: microbiology, immunology and tissue culture.

Your application should tell us about your experience of providing technical support within a teaching or research laboratory environment and your knowledge of and skills for working with a variety of materials/hardware/software using sophisticated and contemporary equipment.  You will be able to articulate your awareness of health and safety legislation, requirements and best practice in the context of the life sciences working environment, and it is essential that customer-focus is at the heart of your approach to your work.  

The School of Life Sciences undertakes teaching and research in the areas of biomedical science, physiology, exercise, molecular biology, pharmacology, nutrition, complementary medicines and biological sciences and provides services for some 1800 students and 110 academic and research colleagues. Our technical teams provide professional support both prior to and during teaching, research and knowledge exchange activities, working collectively and individually, to deliver an excellent technical service. As a team member, you will work closely with colleagues across the School and wider University, to maintain the highest quality of technical support and provide the best possible experience to School users (primarily students and academic and research staff) in the delivery of the School’s core activities.
