This is a maternity cover appointment that sits within the Centre for Education and Teaching Innovation (CETI). The position could be considered on a job share basis.

CETI has a University-wide role in championing learning and teaching and promoting excellence in the context of the needs of our particular students. The Centre has responsibility for a range of functions, including the coordination and delivery of courses in English for Academic purposes; coordination and core delivery of Foundation courses; promoting partnership and co-creation with students; supporting scholarship in learning and teaching; building learning communities to foster pedagogic and educational research; supporting course teams in curriculum development; and developing the professionalism, excellence and innovation of our staff in learning and teaching.

The core responsibility for this role will be to work with colleagues in our Foundation team to design, co-ordinate and deliver a curriculum and design learning materials and workshops. The University has an established Foundation programme comprising year-long, Level 3 courses that prepare students for advanced study at Levels 4-6 in a chosen field. Successful completion of the Foundation year enables students to progress to honours degree courses in various disciplines in the fields of Social Sciences and Humanities, Business Management, Life Sciences, Computer Science, Law, Architecture and Art and Design. Each Foundation course is hosted by the relevant School, but there are two core modules that are common to all courses:

Introduction to Academic Practice
Critical Thinking for Academic and Professional Development

These core modules are coordinated and delivered by the Centre for Education and Teaching Innovation. The core responsibility of the Lecturer appointed, working with the Director of Foundation Pathways, will relate to the delivery of these two core modules, and other associated accountabilities as identified above. The expectation is that lecturers will have subject expertise in Law and related disciplines, to ensure that students’ learning can be contextualised within the discipline.

CETI is a values-driven department with a commitment to trust, flexible working and scholarship. This is an exciting time for CETI and for the University as we seek to embed personalised, authentic and transformational learning across the institution’s portfolio.
