This post is full-time and permanent, working 35 hours per week
The Mental Health Practitioner will play a key role in providing specialist mental health related advice and support to students. Working closely with the Senior Mental Health Practitioner, you will offer proactive, early intervention support to students who may face significant barriers to study due to their mental health. The role includes contributing to the safeguarding and protection of vulnerable students through direct intervention, signposting and liaising with external specialist services.
You will manage a caseload of students with a broad range of mental health needs, carrying out assessments, developing support plans, and providing flexible, student-centred interventions. You will also support students during periods of significant deterioration in their mental health, collaborating closely with university colleagues, NHS teams and community services.
Alongside casework, you will contribute to a whole-university approach to wellbeing by helping to deliver training, workshops and activities that promote positive mental health, raise awareness, and strengthen the University’s capacity to support students effectively.
A relevant degree or equivalent professional experience in mental health is essential. Professional registration or accreditation is desirable.
The Counselling and Mental Health Service currently operates across Cavendish and Harrow campuses.
