Salary: £49,275 to £56,346 per annum (Incl. LWA)

Department: School of Architecture & Cities

Location: Central London

This post is full time and permanent, working 35 hours per week

The School of Architecture and Cities is one of the leading schools of architecture in the UK. Situated in the centre of London, it enjoys large, newly refurbished studios and a recently commissioned Fabrication Laboratory featuring extensive digital and analogue workshops. It benefits from being part of a wider, collaborative College of Design, Creative and Digital Industries. The School’s programmes are characterised by strong links to practice and teaching-led research, as well as by a commitment to embracing new technologies and innovation in design.

Within the area of Built Environment/Cities the School offers a range of professionally accredited postgraduate courses, covering areas such as Architecture, Interior Design, Building Technology, Town Planning, Urban Design, Tourism and Transport studies. The School seeks to develop innovative cross-disciplinary links between areas of Architecture, Interior Design, Environmental Design, Urban Design, Town Planning, Sustainable Development and Planning, Transport Planning and Logistics, Tourism and Events, and Housing Policy.

The Active Travel Academy is a new cross-disciplinary centre for research, teaching, and outreach related to active travel and reducing the use of motorised transport. Allied to the School of Architecture and Cities, it works across the University’s 12 Schools, with members from other disciplines including media studies, computer sciences, politics and law, and health and bioscience. The Academy is financially supported by the Quintin Hogg Trust and seeks to support core university aims including doubling our research income and creating innovative collaborations that enhance our student experience.

This Senior Lecturer position involves developing new interdisciplinary content as part of the new Active Travel Academy, including an elective module and short summer courses. The post holder will have the opportunity to design innovative new material for this, supported by input from colleagues and the Academy Director. Equally, it involves a contribution to existing teaching programmes, largely focused around the Transport Planning and Management course, which attracts a cohort of engaged postgraduates, many already working in transport planning, engineering, and policy.
