This post is full time, working 35 hours per week.

We are seeking to appoint an inclusive, compassionate, and transformative leader to join the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Executive Group as the Head of School for the School of Social Sciences.

The School of Social Sciences is a place where discoveries are made, barriers are broken, diversity is celebrated, and where everyone is welcome. The School fosters the development of new voices and new perspectives in social sciences teaching, research, and knowledge exchange. We do this through our inclusive and sustainable agenda for interdisciplinary and industry-engaged practice in criminology, politics and international relations, psychology, and sociology.

We are a thriving academic school, with 2,000 students and 130+ colleagues working to support the School’s transformative and inclusive vision. Many of our courses are professionally accredited and you will understand the importance of bringing the ‘outside-in’ for the benefit of our students, our research, and our knowledge exchange work.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a capacity, and a passion, for creative and compassionate leadership within the School of Social Sciences. You will have a detailed understanding of our courses, our students, and our colleagues, and display a commitment to advancing the School’s performance against the four objectives laid out in the University’s strategic plan: education, research and knowledge exchange, employability, and global engagement.

The term of office as Head of School is for a period of five years, at which time the position will be reviewed with the possibility of extension for a further two year fixed period. Following completion of the term of office, the postholder will revert to a substantive permanent post within the School.
